MERCEDITA ZAPATO PARA MUJER Hv87057 HISPANITAS SYNOPSIS
A peaceful protest becomes a bloodbath. In the midst of the armed conflict between the IRA and Her Majesty’s Government for the independence of the Republic of Northern Ireland, Ivan Cooper appears on the scene. He is a member of the Irish parliament and a leader of the protests against the detention of citizens suspected of belonging to the IRA that have been jailed without proper trial. A fictional telling of real events from three decades ago, Bloody Sunday presents a vision of history that was still contested at the time of its premiere. The British government only admitted in 2010 that its soldiers had opened fire first, coldly attacking the group of protesters marching for the civic rights of their fellow citizens, and it is possible that this film contributed to that admission. Bloody Sunday submerges us into the suspense of the imminent massacre. Paul Greengrass constructs this documentary-style narrative by use of dizzying editing, rebuilding the events of Sunday, January 30, 1972 from the points of view of both the victims and the aggressors, picking apart one of the most shameful episodes in recent British history.
